HP Pavilion 15 – Windows 11 Compatibility

We look at HP Pavilion 15 series compatibility with Windows 11 operating systems. For non-compatible systems, we look at the available options too.

Specifically, we are talking about the following 2 series of Pavilion computers:

  • HP Pavilion 15 Laptop series models 15-cc000 through 15-cc099
  • HP Pavilion 15 Laptop series models 15-cc500 through 15-cc599

HP Pavilion 15 Laptops Series 15-cc000 to 15-cc099 and 15-cc500 to 15-cc599

HP Pavilion laptops in the series 15-cc000 to 15-cc099 and 15-cc500 to 15-cc599 are not compatible with Windows 11. This means you cannot upgrade to Windows 11 on such computers.

These series of Pavilion laptops have one of the following processor series:

  • Intel® Core™ i7-7500U 2.70-GHz (turbo up to 3.50-GHz) dual core processor
  • Intel Core i5-7200U 2.50-GHz (turbo up to 3.10-GHz) dual core processor
  • Intel Core i3-7100U 2.40-GHz dual core processor
  • Intel Pentium™ 4415U 2.30-GHz dual core processor

You can check the data on the datasheet for these laptops. The datasheet is on HP’s data repository.

You will notice that the processors from the i3, i5, and i7 family of processors are from the 7th generation. Windows 11 is compatible with processors that are at least 8th generation. So, none of these processors are compatible with Windows 11.

You could check the processor-wise list of compatible processors provided by Microsoft for Windows 11 upgrade.

With the available documentation, it is clear that the HP 15da-cc000 to 15 da-cc099 and HP 15-cc500 to 15-cc599 laptops are not compatible with Windows 11.

At this point, you may have a lot of questions. And, we answer each of these below.

Can I install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware?

Technically, it is possible to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. For the reasons enumerated below, we do not support installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware:

  • Access to Windows 11 security updates for non-supported hardware is not guaranteed.
  • There could be unpredictable behavior, system issues or system performance due to incompatible hardware resources

Basically, installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware is not backed by Microsoft. Any subsequent issues have to be addressed or handled by you alone.

The bigger problem is that most HP da15cc000 to da 15cc099 and da15cc500 to da 15cc599 laptops are running Windows 10. And, Windows 10 becomes end of life on 14 October 2025.

What is Windows 10 end of life status?

When Windows 10 becomes end of life, regular security updates will be published. So, running Windows 10 after 14 October 2025 implies the following:

  • Your computer will not have access to security updates
  • Your computer’s vulnerabilities and security issues will remain unpatched, unless you enroll in an extended security update or the ESU subscription.

However, your computer will not stop working. It will work sans security updates in an insecure configuration of operating system.

What is the Windows 10 ESU program?

The ESU program of the Extended Security Update program for Windows 10 will offer Extended Security Updates for a period between 1 to 3 years.

  • ESU or Extended Security Updates are released every month.
  • ESU or Extended Security Updates resolve security vulnerabilities that may have been detected and remained unaddressed in the previous security updates.

The ESU program is a paid subscription. Retail users can buy it for $30 a year and business users can buy the ESU license for a fee of $61 a year. ESU subscription can be bought for a period between 1 to 3 years.
