Dell Inspiron running Windows 10
For Dell Inspiron systems running Windows 10, it is important to note that Windows 10 will become end of life on 14 October 2025. Regular security updates for Windows 10 will not be available after 14 October 2025.
This, therefore, calls for a decision on your part.
For Dell Inspiron computers compatible with Windows 11, we recommend upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 before October 2025.
For Dell Inspiron computers incompatible with Windows 11, you could get a paid subscription to the Extended Security Updates for Windows 10. The ESU program for Windows 10 allows access to extended security updates for a period between 1 to 3 years. These extended security updates are released every month as part of the Patch Tuesday project of Microsoft.
If you are unwilling to get the ESU subscription for Windows 10, you have an option to let your Dell Inspiron run on Windows 10 sans security updates. This is not a recommended solution due to increased risks associated with an unpatched and insecure computer. But, Windows 10 will not stop working after 14 October 2025. And, this is an important point to understand and act upon.
How to find the Dell Inspiron model number?
You could find the Inspiron model number of your Dell desktop or laptop using one of the following methods:
- Find the Service Tag of your Dell computer from the back side. A Dell video should help locate the service tag on your computer.
- On the Dell website, put it the service tag number to find the model information of Inspiron desktop or laptop
An alternate option is to access the BIOS page and find the device information and model information from the BIOS systems specifications page.
Should I install Windows 11 forcefully on incompatible Inspiron desktops or laptops?
Microsoft made it technically possible to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. This involves clean install of Windows 11 on unsupported hardware after bypassing the compatibility checks on the computer.
We do not recommend installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware for the following reasons –
- Access to security updates for Windows 11 on such systems is not guaranteed
- There is a higher chance of system malfunction due to underlying incompatibility between software and hardware
