Smartwatch with Sapphire Glass in 2022

Smartwatches with Sapphire glass are popular and in demand in 2022. Sapphire glass watches look robust and sturdy and give a premium look and feel to the wearer of the watch. In 2022, we have plenty of smartwatch options that have Sapphire glass on the watch screen. We look at some of the more established smartwatch models with Sapphire glass below.

Garmin Fenix 7 Sapphire watches

Garmin Fenix 7 is the latest smartwatch offering from Garmin in the Fenix range. It succeeds the Fenix 6 series. Incidentally, both the Fenix 7 and Fenix 6 series smartwatches are available for outright purchase as I write this. Since the Fenix 7 is the latest series from Garmin, we cover the Sapphire glass watches in the Fenix 7 series below.

The following Fenix 7 watches have Sapphire glass on the watch screen for a virtually unscratchable experience:

  • Fenix 7S Sapphire Solar
  • Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar
  • Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar

The Sapphire solar watches on Fenix 7 have an added advantage. The battery on these smartwatch models can be solar charged. For solar charging to be effective, you need to be in direct sunlight of 50,000 lux or higher for a minimum of 3 hours every day.

For more details about each of these Sapphire Solar watches of Fenix 7, please do spend some time to read about the key differences and features of the Sapphire Solar edition on this page.

Fenix 6 Series

Garmin’s Fenix 6 series does a decent job in terms of fitness tracking and multi-sport functionality and features. The Fenix 6 series has a few variations that support the Sapphire glass on the watch screen. These Sapphire glass watches from the Fenix 6 series are solar charged as well.

The following Sapphire Solar watches from the Fenix 6 series come with the sapphire glass on the watch screen:

  • Fenix 6S Pro and Sapphire
  • Fenix 6 Pro and Sapphire
  • Fenix 6X Pro and Sapphire

These three models of the Fenix series are the Sapphire glass models. All these watches have a very hard watch screen surface. User feedback does indicate that the watch screen is, almost, unscratchable. User feedback also suggests that the watch screen lends a premium appearance to the Sapphire edition watches of the Fenix 6 series.

As is the case with Fenix 7, a Fenix 6 will need solar time of at least 3 hours or more in direct sunlight of 50,000 lux or more. If you stay indoors for the most part of the day, you may choose a Sapphire watch for the Sapphire glass rather than the solar charging feature.

Garmin Epix (Gen) 2 Sapphire Edition

Epix generation 2 smartwatch (Sapphire Edition) has watch screen of Sapphire glass. It costs $999.99, and also offers AMOLED display on the watch screen. Epix 2 In comparison with the Fenix 6 and Fenix 7 series watches, Garmin’s Epix 2 series has a much better display resolution of 416 x 416 pixels. The watch has an on-device storage or internal storage of 32 GB. Epix 2 is one of the most complete smartwatch models that are available for ready lift-off from a store near you.

Suunto 9 Series Smartwatches

Suunto 9 Peak and Sunnto 9 Baro are two smartwatch models that have sapphire glass. Both watches are sports watches and the watch glass is hard and unscratchable (almost). Both watches cost $499.99 each and contain activity tracking modules to help you through running, cycling, swimming and other fitness tracking.

Suunto watches compete with the Fenix series smartwatches of Garmin. In terms of strength, features, app features, and product features, Suunto series offers enhanced performance for athletes and sports enthusiasts, and sports players.

Why is Sapphire Smartwatch better than Corning Glass smartwatch?

Sapphire is the third hardest mineral that is naturally available. Watch glass made of Sapphire glass brings in the intrinsic quality of hardness to the watch screen. Sapphire has a hardness between 8-9 Mohs, making it one of the hardest minerals. Sapphire watches have sapphire coated with metal oxides to protect against hard impacts and scratches from surfaces. Most people believe that the Sapphire watches are unscratchable, and look better than the normal glass screen on the watch.

Corning’s Gorilla glass is made of normal mineral glass and has a hardness between 5-6 Mohs. This makes Sapphire glass at least 30% harder than the normal mineral glass. This is the exact reason that you will find a lot many watches have Sapphire glass. Luxury watches will offer Sapphire glass as a standard offering of the watch.

In the smartwatch category, Sapphire glass is rare. It is limited to a few watch models of higher-end smartwatches from Garmin and Suunto. Things are changing though. We should see more Sapphire smartwatches being offered in the near future.

Summary

If you are looking for Sapphire smartwatches, your options are limited to picking a Sapphire watch from Garmin or Suunto. Both watch brands offer premium Sapphire smartwatches that are almost scratch-proof. Sapphire watches protect well against impacts to the watch screen. And, Sapphire watches are noticeably better looking than a normal watch screen of the smartwatch.
