Garmin Vivoactive 4 Beta Software Update version 7.30

Garmin Vivoactive 4 has received a new beta software update for version 7.30. This beta update follows up to the stable release of firmware version 7.20 for Vivoactive 4 devices. The stable release version 7.20 was released by Garmin on 19th August 2022.

Beta software update version 7.30 seeks to address issues reported and raised after the deployment of firmware 7.20 on the Vivoactive 4 devices.

How to deploy beta software update version 7.30 on Vivoactive 4?

Beta software update for Vivoactive 4 can be applied on the device manually. You will need to download the software update manually and apply it using the Garmin Express application on your Vivoactive 4 watch.

Here is the full process for applying beta software update version 7.30 on Vivoactive 4 watches:

  • Connect the Vivoactive 4 device to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Launch the Garmin Express application on the computer. (Garmin Express is a PC application that is available for Windows and Mac computers)
  • The update file has a size of 15.82 MB only and is in a zip format.
  • The zip archive contains 3 files. It has GUPDATE.GCD, GUPDATE_720.GCD and readme.txt file.
  • Once you extract these files on your computer, the GUPDATE.GCD file needs to be copied over to the /GARMIN/ folder on your computer.
  • Allow the update to complete on the computer.
  • Disconnect the Garmin Vivoactive 4 device from the USB port of your computer.
  • Authorize the update for Vivoactive 4 device on the watch.
  • From hereon, the beta firmware version 7.30 should install on the Vivoactive 4 device.
  • If you run into any issues after implementing beta software update, you can rollback the beta software to the previous stable release version 7.20. To rollback the beta software update, you will need to copy the GUPDATE_720.GCD file in the /GARMIN/ folder.

It may be pertinent to mention that beta software update must be applied on Vivoactive 4 device only if you are comfortable in the manual upgrade process.

The beta software updates are not stable release versions. So, there is a high chance that you may experience issues or bugs as part of the beta software deployment on the Vivoactive 4 smartwatch. The bottom line is to ‘Proceed with caution’.

If you are not experiencing any issues with the stable release version 7.20 for Vivoactive 4, we suggest keeping it simple. It is much wiser to wait for the next stable release version of the firmware update for Vivoactive 4 smartwatches.
