Fitbit is working on Sense 2 smartwatch launch. More and more wearable websites are reporting and sharing the leaked images of Fitbit Sense 2. Fitbit Sense 2 will succeed Fitbit Sense. Fitbit Sense is a health watch that offers advanced health tracking metrics. What would you expect Fitbit Sense 2 to be? And, what features are expected to be part of the Fitbit Sense 2 launch. We review some key aspects of the expected Fitbit Sense 2 features and functions.
Improved ECG Sensor
We know that the Fitbit Sense allows you to take spot ECG readings through the ECG app. Fitbit Sense helps in detecting high and low heart rate situations as well. It is expected that the ECG sensor on the Fitbit Sense 2 would receive an upgrade in terms of its sensitivity and capability. Remember, the Fitbit Sense and Apple Watch series 4 onwards are the two smartwatch series that allow you to take ECG or heart readings to monitor your heart health. You can even share the details of the ECG with your doctor.
Tactile Button on Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Sense has had a reputation of being a soft watch. It does not have a tactile button. The leaked images do seem to suggest that the Fitbit Sense 2 will come with a tactile button. This would be a good feature upgrade as tactile buttons help in improving watch’s functioning. It would also put the Fitbit Sense 2 in league with the Apple Watch 7 and Garmin watches. Garmin smartwatches have a tactile button to offer essential functionality.
AMOLED display on Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Sense has an AMOLED display for enhanced display clarity and resolution. We expect the Fitbit Sense 2 to continue with the AMOLED display. Depending on the size of the new watch, the display resolution may improve.
Water Rating on Fitbit Sense 2
A water rating of 5 ATM or 50 meters is a standard smartwatch rating these days. We expect the Fitbit Sense 2 to come with 50 meter water resistance rating. This will mean that the watch can be used while swimming in the pool. However, we expect that the Fitbit Sense 2 will not be appropriate for diving or snorkeling.
One of the complaints of Fitbit Sense smartwatch has been a poor water proof performance. Hopefully, the Fitbit Sense 2 will improve the water-proof characteristic of the watch.
GPS on Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Sense supports GPS and GLONASS satellite systems. GPS and GLONASS support should continue on the Fitbit Sense 2. It remains to be seen if multi-band frequency sensor comes to the Fitbit Sense 2. We do not expect the multi-frequency sensor to be added on the Fitbit Sense 2 watch. But, the back plate of the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch suggests that there may be an additional sensor on the watch. It could be a GPS sensor as well to improve the overall GPS accuracy of the data collected by the Sense 2.
Music on Fitbit Sense 2
Music has been a week point of the Fitbit Sense. You are limited to using Deezer and Pandora apps for storing music playlists on the Fitbit Sense smartwatch.
We believe that music needs to be strengthened on the Fitbit Sense 2. We would like to see Fitbit Sense 2 come with an all round music functionality.
- Fitbit Sense 2 should allow music content or personal audio content on the watch storage.
- Fitbit Sense 2 should allow you to control music stored on the paired smartphone.
- Fitbit Sense 2 should allow for integration with music streaming apps as a general feature. We expect to see Spotify added to the music streaming apps available for the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch.
Fitbit Premium on Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Premium is a paid subscription program that is available for Fitbit Sense. For an additional subscription cost, you get access to premium features on the Fitbit Sense. We expect that the Fitbit Premium features should become a standard feature on the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatches. The idea of a paid subscription to avail specific features on the Sense 2 smartwatch looks primitive. All the new software upgrades should be rolled out as a standard package on the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch. Fitbit may charge a premium as part of the cost of the smartwatch.
Cost of Fitbit Sense 2
Fitbit Sense is available for a price under $199. The new Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch would command a premium price and may be priced anywhere between $249-$349. One thing that may happen post-launch of Fitbit Sense 2 is the increase in discount on the Fitbit Sense smartwatch.
Likely launch of Fitbit Sense 2
It is expected that the Fitbit Sense 2 may launch in the next few weeks. Samsung and Apple are expected to release new smartwatch models in August and September. Traditionally, Fitbit is the first one to release its smartwatch. So, we expected Fitbit Sense 2 to be launched and made available some time in the middle of August. Or, perhaps, the third week of August may see the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch.
