Does Fenix 5X have music?

Fenix 5X does not have music. But, it will allow you to control music on your smart phone. The music control widget on the Fenix 5X controls the music that is stored on your smart phone.

You may be surprised by the omission of on-device music storage on the Fenix 5X. This becomes more surprising because the Fenix 5X comes with an on-device memory storage of 16 GB. The storage is sufficient to store up to 1000 songs. With a similar on-device storage, the plus series watches in the Fenix 5 family have music storage on the device. The plus series includes the Fenix 5S Plus, Fenix 5X Plus and Fenix 5 Plus. All the plus series Fenix 5 watches can store and play up to 1,000 songs from the watch.

Another striking omission is the inability to play music through third party apps like Deezer and Spotify. At $600, the Fenix 5X is cheaper by a minimum of about $100 in comparison to the Fenix 5 plus series watches. However, controlling the music on the smart phone through the music control widget is a seamless integration. All that you need to do is to bring up the music control widget and play the music stored on your smart phone. To control music on the smart phone, please follow the instructions below:

  • If you are unable to see the music control widget on the Fenix 5X watch, you can add it to the watch screen. The widgets on the watch can be customized. In other words, you can add or remove widgets from the widget loop on the Fenix 5X watch.

To add or remove widgets from the widget loop, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Hold MENU.
  2. Select Settings > Widgets.
  3. Select a widget.
  4. Select an option:
    • Select Reorder to change the location of the widget in the widget loop.
    • Select Remove to remove the widget from the widget loop.
  5. Select Add Widgets.
  6. Select a widget. The widget is added to the widget loop.

You can access the widget by clicking the down and up buttons on the Fenix 5X. The widget allows you to play music from the paired smart phone.
